The Biggest Loser

The students were talking the other day about a television play called “The Biggest Loser.” We don’t get very good reception in Hell, so I’m not sure what’s been lost, but it reminds me of a parable about our gifts.
Three servants are given valuables by the master. The most talented is given 5, the less talented 3 and the least talented 1. The ones with 5 and 3 doubled the value, but the third servant buries his, so all he has to show for his “efforts” is exactly what he was given.
The master was furious and tosses him out of the kingdom on his ear, yes indeedy.
It gets confusing boys & girls, because there’s another saying that it’s easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy man to enter the kingdom.
But the parable isn’t referring to monetary wealth, it’s referring to the wealth of gifts—of talent or skills—that we are given.
And the message is that if we hide our talents away, we don’t use them for good and just bury them, we have wasted the gifts we have been given.
See if you recognize this the next time you see someone, whether it’s a carpenter or a performer, who is using their gifts for good.
What is your gift?
